Dallas, Texas - City Overview and Airfare Information

Dallas is in the top ten in the list of the largest cities in the US, between two other Texan cities. Like Houston and San Antonio is gamma world city, meaning that its economical performances have effect on many other cities.

This importance not only brought the city long-term investors but “short term investors” too. These are the tourists, who spend their money for only a few days. The city realized that making itself attractive for visitors huge amounts of money will be spent in restaurants, clubs and anywhere that is visited. This way tourism is a main component of the city’s economy. The motto of Dallas is a guarantee that anyone who will visit the city will spend a great time here; this is “Live Large. Think Big”.

Its climate makes the city popular among those who would like to spend their holidays in a hot city. The highest temperatures are between 20 and 33 °C from March to November. Even during winter, it rarely drops below 3 °C. Because of this, you won’t be able to practice ski. Nevertheless, if you don’t like snow anyway it’s great news for you that only 2 or 5 days have snowfall yearly.

Dallas is a real 21st century city because most of its notable and iconic buildings have modern or postmodern style. The following buildings - that were featured in many movies and TV shows because of their unique or harmonic design - are good examples of the modern and postmodern architecture: the Fountain Palace, in shape of a prism, the Bank of America Plaza, which has green outlining at night, and the JPMorgan Chase Tower, which has a seven story hole and a curved glass top.

While in the city, you can admire the mega churches. Being such an influential town, many stereotypes are circulating about the city and its residents. Such stereotypes are that businessmen are wearing cowboy hats and the large number of wealthy oil barons were only amplified by the long-running soap opera Dallas.

The city is also known for its renamed cuisines: the Mexican, Tex-Mex and barbecue cuisines. Like any American city, barbecue can be found in almost any restaurant. The small distance between Dallas and the Mexican border and the large number of Mexican residents has a big influence on the foods and drinks. This is why Tex-Mex appeared, it makes the American foods to blend with the Mexican culinary experiences. You will have no chance to remain hungry while in Dallas because the city has many upscale restaurants and several nationwide ranked steak houses. The Bob’s Steak & Chop is ranked number three according to the USDA chart.

If these weren’t convincing enough for you, the fact that Dallas has more restaurants per capita then New York will surely impress you.

However not only if you are hungry gives Dallas what you are looking for. The city offers a wide range of recreational activities. A nearly incredible 406 parks are operated. The White Rock is biggest of the more than dozen lakes you can find here. This lake offers the possibility of sailing, boating and fishing.

Dallas is a real mecca for the fans of sports. There are over 200 sports fields including basketball, volleyball and tennis courts. Of course, the ban of swimming in the White Rock lake didn’t mean the end of swimming in this Texas city. Sixty swimming pools are serving the needs of locals and tourist who would like activity.

The city is very popular between the cycling communities. Nearly 100 kilometers of bike and jogging trails can be found around the city. In addition to these recreational possibilities, you can also try golf at one of the six 18-hole golf courses. You can try eighteen rides in the Six Flags Over Texas amusement park. Here you can scream on the tallest and fastest rollercoaster in Texas.

The Greenville Avenue is the perfect place if you are looking for modest pubs, the Blue Note being the most famous of these. Maybe the most exclusive lounge is the Purgatory, which is a four-story building, featuring a martini bar. If you would like to feel what is like to be a celebrated rodeo cowboy or cowgirl you should visit Gilley’s club that features a mechanical bull. In search of a less extreme fun you can be the singer in Uptown Bar and Grill where the lovers of karaoke come together to hang out. Spending a whole day in West End Historic District is easy because this area offers everything from shops, boutiques, restaurants and clubs.

If you are looking the true southern feeling, the search ends once you decide to visit Dallas giving you the best Mexican and barbecue cuisine in the south.
