Chicago - The Windy City

Chicago was founded in the early 1800s and has become one of the most vibrant and attractive cities in the US. besides its short but rich history, Chicago is home to a lot of culture and sports. Chicago really has it all, with great architecture, good infrastructure and lots of things to do. Chicago is also often called the "Windy City" because of the consistent wind blowing through its streets so visits during the warmer months are recommended.

Chicago Air Transportation

Chicago has two major airports with OHhare being one of the largest in the world. It's a very busy airport but yet very well organized. One thing that's nice about O'Hare is that there are plenty of free wireless hotspots availabe which is really convenient especially when traveling for business. While the Chicago city airport is much smaller, it still offers service to many cities in the US and if you're traveling to Chicago, you should really consider this airport.

What to See in Chicago?

Chicago is a city full of culture, entertainment, and commerce, Chicago runs right up there with the big dogs. You can start out by visiting downtown Chicago which is the center for government, finance, and commerce and is surrounded by The Loop, named after the elevated train tracks that we all know from so many gangster movies. Chicago's architecture offers a fantastic skyline including one of the largest buildings in the world, the Sears Tower, and the Chicago Board of Trade which are both landmarks for this part of town. The North Side of Chicago is known for its shopping district, the Magnificent Mile and many historic buildings and residential areas, several interesting museums, and of course the John G. Shedd Aquarium. Also, of great interest is Chicago's Chinatown which is located in Near the South Side which shouldn't miss when in Chicago. Finally, don't forget to visit the South Side, which is home to Washington Park, The University of Chicago and the Museum of Science and Industry.

Chicago – Nightlife and Entertainment

The vibrant city of Chicago has much more to offer to tourists. The city boasts many bars, pubs, restaurants and clubs, but also offers some of the World's best known sports teams like the Chicago Bulls or the Chicago Cubs which are all part of this unique City's culture and history. For foodies there is plenty to explore as well as the city has its own food style and histroy. Don't forget to try some real Chicago hot dogs, the deep-dish pizza, or of course one of its many famous steak houses. If you are into music, Chicago offers many events year round and for all music types and is well known for its Chicago Symphony, but also its club music.

When to visit Chicago

Even though the city is crowded year-round because of its many attractions and conventions it's recommended to visit the city during the warmer summer months. The winter months are really just for the brave traveler as temperatures can drop very low. A great time to go is during events such as the Taste of Chicago. If you are looking for good deals and more quiet time, you should go during March when there is not so many tourists around. Generally the high season is from April to December and low season is January through March.
