It is cheaper and better to travel to Mysore by rail, via Bangalore. Though there is an airport in Mysore, it does not cater to international travel. A better option would be to travel to Bangalore or Chennai and catch a bus or train to Mysore from there. There are numerous buses and trains plying from these cities to Mysore on a regular basis.
WeatherThough the weather in Mysore is pleasant throughout the year, the best time to visit the city is in the months of October to March. Kannada is widely spoken here while there are lots of people speaking Dravidian languages like Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. Many people speak fluent English in Mysore while there is a sprinkling of people who speak Hindi here.
The history of Mysore is a very rich one which has legendary traces. It was the Ganga dynasty that figured first in the history of Mysore in the 2nd century until 1004. The Cholas followed and ruled Mysore for about a hundred years to be followed by the Chalukyas and the Hoysalas.
However it was the year of 1610 that proved to be iconic for the history of Mysore as this was when the Raja Waidyar had relocated the capital from Mysore to Srirangapatnam. Hyder Ali and his son, Tipu Sultan had ruled over Mysore between the years of 1761 and 1799.

In addition to this, there are quite a few famous temples in Mysore worth visiting like Lakshmiramana Swamy Temple, Prasanna Krishnaswamy Temple, Chamundi Temple, Mahabaleshwara Temple and Trinesvaraswamy Temple.
Lately, the IT sector has grown in Mysore with companies like Infosys and Larsen and Turbo establishing themselves in the city. There are many fairs and festivals that take place in Mysore with pomp and excitement. It is through these fairs that one gets to learn about the bygone era of Mysore; where the ten day Dusshera festival is still celebrated with age old grandeur.
