There are many beautiful mountains in the world, there is no question about it. Everyone has their favorites, one may prefer peeks with steep edges, others have amazing experiences even at a small elevation. Some like the grand and breathtaking Himalaya, others the wilderness of the Rocky Mountains or maybe the sky paradises of the European Alps, everyone things mountains are magical places.

These beautiful mountains are perfect for winter sports, hiking or enjoying nature. But as you can see in the below video, there is not better place on Earth to watch the clouds during the day and the stars at night. So here come the most beautiful mountains in the world – in our opinion.

Star and cloud watching from the mountains

One of the most fascinating things about mountains and high peaks is that you can see thousands of stars from up there that you could never see from an urban area with all the city lights. Without a telescope you can see the Milky Way, constellations and even nebulae… That is one damn good reason to start hiking!

Matterhorn, Alps

Definitely one of the most beautiful mountains in the world, the Matterhorn in Zermatt with its 4,478 meters in height is the number one destination in the Valais Alps in Switzerland. The image of Matterhorn can be seen on T-shirts, jackets and thousands of souvenirs, it is very famous. Every year millions of skiers and tourists visit this place that is one of the largest and highest ski and hiking areas in Europe. Not only the beautiful cities of Switzerland are worth a visit…

Alpamayo, Andes

With its 5,947 meters Alpamayo in Peru is not counted among the highest mountain in South America, but but it is definitely among the most famous. The reason: on all sides Alpamayo is a pleasure for the eyes! The trapezoidal southwest face is as beautiful as the sight of the north. It is part of the Cordillera Blanca and is a sixty degrees steep nearly perfect pyramid made of ice – magnificent!

K2, Karakoram

Although K2 is the second highest mountain in the world the 8611 meter high peak, had already claimed many casualties. The mountain is regarded as one of the most difficult places to climb. No wonder, Karakoram has got the ‘highest concentration’ of peaks over 8,000 meters on the planet and also some of the best hiking trails in Asia. Many have tried to conquer the steep peaks of these beautiful mountains and many have failed, K2 has got a rather dramatic history.
