Compared to European countries for instance, things in the US seem more grand and magnificent. The same is true for the airports of the United States, so much that in 2012 US airports altogether had a passenger traffic of 815 million – almost 1 billion people. Isn’t that insane?

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport
Indisputably the father of all airports, Atlanta Airport only had a passenger traffic of 95 million people last year, and its growing. One may be surprised why the crown of the industry does not go to an airport of a larger city like New York or Los Angeles. Well, that is because Hartsfield-Jackson (ATL) is a major hub for connection flights coming from within the US and abroad.

Chicago O’Hare International Airport
Apart from being on the US top list, Chicago O’Hare (ORD) is also the third largest airport in the world with its annual 67 million passengers. This is a quite good indicator to see how United Sates airports are in a leading position when it comes to air traffic. The guys at O’Hare International must be doing a really good job as despite the huge number of people it serves, the airports was voted North America’s best airport for services. It is the main hub of both American Airlines and United Airlines and as we said, most of its traffic is made up of domestic flights.

Los Angeles International Airport
Los Angeles Airport (LAX) has got nine terminals to cater to all the departures and arrivals, no wonder as last year it had nearly 66 million passengers. Many of them are on a vacation to experience the Californian sunshine and lifestyle, admire the stars on Hollywood Boulevard or take their children to Disneyland. LAX is a major hub for Alaska Airlines, United Airlines and also American Airlines but it is a focus airport for many other airline companies as well.
